Our talented master students Ekaterina Duhnova and Svetlana Ptuhova (master program «Strategic logistics management») took participation in Rotterdam University Winter School «OPTIMIZATION IN PORTS AND SHIPPING NETWORKS», which was organized by the UNIVERSITY OF LEIDEN, DELFT UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AND ERASMUS UNIVERSITY ROTTERDAM at18-22 December 2017.

It all started at November 9th 2017, when prof. Rob Zuidwijk (Erasmus University Rotterdam)  held a lecture «New Developments in Port Logistics and Global Supply Chain Management» for 4th year bachelor students (program «Logistics and Supply chain management») and master students (program «Strategic logistics management»). The lecture was organized with the assistance of Nuffic Neso Russia, the official representative of Holland higher education in Russia  https://www.nesorussia.org/
After discussion on the point of possible cooperation between our universities (Rotterdam University occupies 21st place at QS rating in Business and Management Studies), we got an invitation from prof. Rob Zuidwijk. He proposed us to participate in the winter school «Optimization in ports and shipping networks», that was organized on the basis of three universities: University of Leiden, Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam. The winter school is intended for PhD-students and talented master students, and has a limited capacity of 20 participants.

Master students of the second year Ekaterina Duhnova and Svetlana Ptuhova (master program «Strategic logistics management») successfully passed the competition and get the invitation at November, 29th.  They told about their journey.

“The program of Winter school consisted of a lot of interesting lectures and seminars kept by prof. Rob Zuidwijk, prof. René de Koster, Judith Mulder (Erasmus University Rotterdam), prof. Yao-Hua Tan (Delft University of Technology), prof. Iris Vis (University of Groningen). All the classes were hold from 9 a.m till 5 p.m. during all the five days of the event.

Seminars were organized in form of discussion ‘question-answer’. There were a lot of questions from students all around the world (Germany, China, Japan, India, Finland, Netherlands and Russia). Careful organization of lunch time also pleased us very much! Moreover we still keep contact with students-participants of winter school and actively discuss professional topics.

We would like to highlight the excursion to sea port of Rotterdam – the largest port of Europe, covering 105 square km and having length of 40 km. We get acquainted to the process of cargo loading, peculiarities of special software support for choice and placement of containers and many other interesting aspects of port logistics infrastructure.

Studying in the Netherlands was interesting and useful for us! Unfortunately, we did not manage to see all the city sightseeing. But we hope to have the possibility to visit Rotterdam in the future again and open something new for us in this great city.”

Second year study master students of the program «Strategic logistics management» Ekaterina Duhnova and Svetlana Ptuhova.

We are thankful to the organizers of Rotterdam Winter school, especially  prof. Rob Zuidwijk. We consider this event as an important step for maintaining long-term logistics relationships between our universities. In particular, we wait  prof. Rob Zuidwijk in Saint-Petersburg in November, 2018 to keep lectures for the second year students of master program  «Strategic logistics management».
